April + Jason's Wedding at The Doctor's House in Green's Harbour // Newfoundland Wedding Photographer

0183BlogAprilJason.jpg

If a wedding day makes you feel as though you're floating on air, then getting married at The Doctor's House makes you feel like you're in another world entirely.

Surrounded by the fresh forest air, with little peeks of the ocean horizon coming through the trees, April & Jason said their I Do's. They joined two beautiful families into one and celebrated the bond they already share with their beautiful little boy.

Happiness was in abundance with these guys as we frolicked by the ocean, went for a dory ride, and danced the night away in a barn loft!! I wish April, Jason, and their son Blake a lifetime of happiness. All my my love to you!

Sarah and Chad's Engagement Session at Cape Spear in St. John's // Newfoundland Wedding Photographer

0006blog sarah chad.jpg

Another beautiful tale of what happens when Newfoundlanders make a new home together on the mainland, but can't resist the pull of the island tides for their special day.

Sarah and Chad came home to St. John's this summer and of course we had to take the opportunity to capture their engagement photos... so we knew there was no better place than Cape Spear.

With the wild wind and ocean below, Sarah and Chad bared their souls on these rocks and what we captured was the deep, beautiful connection they share.

Congratulations and all my love to Sarah and Chad! In less than a year you will be #BecomingTheBuddens and I can't wait to continue along on your journey!

Leah and Norm's Ocean-Inspired Wedding on Fogo Island / St. John's Wedding Photographer

0029blog.jpg

Fogo Island is a lot of things. It is jagged shorelines and crooked fenceposts. Rugged hills and outport hospitality. It is feeling "home".

It is also where Leah & Norm said yes to forever.

With an emotionally-charged first look on the beach, to exploring the hills with their small bridal party, to visiting areas from the groom's childhood, it was a wedding day that perfectly celebrated Leah + Norm's sweet love.

Enjoy their story below.

See this pretty pup? In a CRAZY twist of fate, I found out the day before the wedding that this is Sadie, the beagle my family and I named and fostered back in 2009. Amazing to see that she went to a beautiful home. Just look at her smile!

“I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand, so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”

The Sexton's Famlily Session at Topsail Beach, Newfoundland // St. John's Family Photographers

A girl from Vancouver, a guy from South Africa, and their little boy who bridges the gap: living in Newfoundland and having so many adventures along the way.

Between travelling near full-time in their RV, being totally willing to explore Topsail Beach in their bare feet, and just being such beautiful souls, I knew I felt an instant connection to the Sexton family.

Huge thank you to this sweet trio for being so lovely and inspiring, and for trusting me to capture the bond you all share. Until we meet again. XO

Until we meet again! XO- Maddie

Rachel and Roger's Quidi Vidi Brewery Wedding in St. John's // Newfoundland Wedding Photographers

WEB_RachelRogerWedding-339.jpg

Have you ever watched a romance movie and just completely laughed at it, because there's no way it's even close to real life?

Laugh no more, peeps.

Meet Rachel & Roger. Their love is a modern day fairy tale.

After randomly chatting with these two in line at Starbucks one day, and then meeting at the same spot months later for a consultation (through their online photog search and a twist of fate!), I knew R+R were special people- with an even more incredible love between them.

These guys cherish each other in a way that is hard to come by nowadays, and their love is just purely on FIRE. Between their wonderful families, a laid back wedding plan, and the biggest love St. John's has ever seen, it was truly an honor and pleasure to capture their November wedding at Quidi Vidi Brewery!

Keep blazing, Rachel + Roger. xox

The day began at R+R's home where Rachel got ready with her Mom, as well as her maid of honor!

After Roger got ready, it was time for their beautiful first look in Quidi Vidi!

Then, their families showed up with the sweetest small bridal party in tow.

Before the evening wedding at Quidi Vidi Brewery, Rachel and Roger set off on some lovely adventures around St. John's!

Once evening hit, it was officially time for this pair to say I Do in front of a close group of loved ones!

Lacy Rose Design did an amazing job of getting Quidi Vidi Brewery ready for the wedding, and that gorgeous cake by Colorful Creations fit perfectly!

After their sweet ceremony, Rachel and Roger's family and friends gave the best wedding speeches I have EVER heard, and we all danced the night away!

Thank you so much to this amazing couple for allowing me to capture your beautiful love story. :) I can't wait to watch your life together grow!

Emily & Aaron's Wedding at The Woodstock in St. John's // Newfoundland Wedding Photographers

It's always an honour to be part of the most special day in a couple's life, but when the bride is a dear friend, it almost defies description.

Emily is a wedding decorator with Live Wire Events, so it's not surprising that the big day was incredibly stylishly and decidedly untraditional for a fall wedding.

The love and connection between Aaron and Emily is so strong it was present in the air that day. The emotions flowed freely as everyone present were caught up in the beauty of the couple's wedding.

Every wedding is unique and beautiful, but every so often, one has the chance to witness something truly magical - a single moment of perfect beauty as two people begin a new life together.

I'm honoured to have been able to share that moment with Aaron and Emily!

The special day began at Emily's parents' house, where the gals got glammed up!

Then it was onto downstairs to visit the boys as they opened their groomsman gifts! Can't forget about the liquor samplers... And a Koolaid for the bride's little brother! ;)

They all looked dapper in their own style of suits, and complimented the ladies' mismatched bridesmaid dresses perfectly!

Their seriously emotional first look was next, and it had everyone bawling their eyes out! Me, behind the camera- and the wedding party, secretly watching from the back deck! ;)

Emily & Aaron had the cutest little ring bearers!!

The photos were taken at the bride's grandparent's house near the water. During the shoot, we found a small boat moored nearby - an homage to the couple's engagement shoot they had done aboard a sailboat!

In the late afternoon, it was time to make it official!! We all held it together for the ceremony... For the most part ;)

After the I Do's and before their party at The Woodstock Restaurant, E+A just HAD to catch some of that gorgeous sunset light! It was a time for some beautiful, quiet reflection for them before the reception!

6 Ways To Rule Your Getting Ready Photos // Newfoundland Wedding Photographer

Hello all you amazing wedded people-to-be!

I am SO excited to introduce my upcoming blog series: "FOR COUPLES!" This series will be dedicated to providing awesome tips and tricks to all of you who are planning your wedding, and want to make it as smooth, easy, and wicked fun as possible!

Today's post is all about the very first step on your wedding day... Getting Ready! It's such a wonderful opportunity to hang out with the ones you love, all the while having beautiful memories captured before the whirlwind of the day ahead!

Read on below to hear my tips on how to totally ROCK your getting ready photos, and stay tuned for the rest of the FOR COUPLES blog series!

1. Display Your Outfits Picture-Perfectly

Your wedding day attire is such a outright expression of who you are as people! Make sure your getups look as fabulous as they make you feel by ensuring your space will have a lovely doorway or window to hang them in, free of unnecessary clutter. Wooden or personalized hangers are also a small but important detail in making sure your gowns or tuxes look their best!

2. Have Your Details Ready To Go

Expressing your personality doesn't have to stop at clothes! Accessories, shoes, and other items you use to gussy yourself up also play a BIG role in portraying who you are through your photos.

By having your details all ready to go for when I arrive, it saves you so much stress in rushing to secure all your items! Save yourself the risk of forgetting one of your cherished details by putting them all in a shoebox before the wedding, and simply handing it off to me when I show up.

Lastly, don't be afraid to get creative! Take a look at Roger's details above- he even included his pomade and beloved fountain pen for me to photograph!

3. Give Gifts AFTER Your Photographer Arrives

I know that gift giving, especially to your amazing family and wedding party, is SO exciting! But. it's always great to hold off on gifting your special peeps until I get to your place the morning of. If I'm there, it means I'll be able to capture the memories, and photos of the presents you so thoughtfully curated!

4. Do A Fun "First Look" With Your Wedding Party

I'm sure you've heard of doing a first look with your partner before the ceremony, but have you heard of doing one with your wedding party?! It's a super cute trick we photographers like to set up to give you all an amazing memory AND get true emotional reactions from your friends and family! If not to make you cry, what else are we here for? ;)

Just look at Leslie's ladies below seeing her all dolled up in her gown for the first time! So sweet!

5. Get A Matching Item For Your Group To Rock

It's always SO GREAT when couples really think about their getting-ready squad! Matching outfits or gifts are so fun, and make for great photos to commemorate your morning team. From floral robes, to cool gentleman's socks, the options are endless. Worded t-shirts are also a favorite!

6. Let THOSE Emotions OUT!

WEB-JennyJeremy2016-97.jpg

It goes without saying that there are a lot of emotions running wild on a wedding day. Don't be afraid to let the love show! When people are open and let their joy (or happy tears!) shine for everyone to see, the connections I can capture for you are truly beautiful.

I hope you all enjoyed reading my top tips to ROCK your getting ready photos, and I can't wait to see how you make them your own for YOUR wedding day! Stay tuned for my next "FOR COUPLES" blog-

Lori & John's Downtown St. John's Couples Session // Newfoundland Engagement Photographers

BLOGLoriJohnDowntown-1.jpg

Being in love. It's when you smile so hard that your face hurts, when you dance even when EVERYONE is watching, and when your heart beats with warmth that radiates throughout your whole entire soul.

It was a beautiful evening in Downtown St. John's, and right around the corner from Lori and John's place a little Newfoundland fairytale came to life. First stop- Fred's Records, because where else??

Then, it was back up the road to their place, for some cozy times on their deck overlooking St. John's :) Note the Ariel and Captain America mugs. Score.

An evening walk a day keeps the doctor away!

You are the moonlight of my life every night
Giving all my love to you
My beating heart belongs to you
I walked for miles 'til I found you
I'm here to honor you
If I lose everything in the fire
I'm sending all my love to you

Robyn + Matthew's Wedding at Manuel's River in CBS // Newfoundland Wedding Photographers

Robyn and Matthew met in highschool, fell in love, and the story continues to this day.

This amazing wedding began with the bride and groom each getting ready in their childhood homes, surrounded by love from their families and bridal parties. In the early afternoon, Matthew's uncle then officiated their ceremony, which added such a personal touch to the vows and wedding. After an adventurous afternoon of photos around historic St. John's and the stunning Manuel's River, with R+M all cuddled out, everyone enjoyed dinner and a slideshow of memories from the couple's life together.

In an age where love is too easily overshadowed by the greed, busyness, and changing times in our world, it was so refreshing and beautiful to witness a storybook connection. Thank you Robyn and Matthew from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you to Elbonita Kohzani Photography for your assistance and second shooting!

Jaime + Steve's Wedding at The Rocket Room in Downtown St. John's // Newfoundland Wedding Photographers

What can I say about these two?

They are one of the most laid back and friendly couples I've ever met!

Jaime and Steve wed on a beautiful sunny day in St. John's, surrounded by their very closest family and friends. Between the I Do's and reception at The Rocket Room, to hanging out at Quidi Vidi Plantation with their whole clan, to making the whole day uniquely theirs, this was a St. John's wedding to remember.
