Stephanie + Mark's Wedding at Glendenning // St. John's Newfoundland Wedding Photographer

In September, Stephanie and Mark got married on a gorgeous sunny day that blended two worlds- Witless Bay and St. John’s ;)

The day began with everyone getting ready in homes overlooking the ocean, followed by a stunning ceremony at Our Lady Star Of The Sea. It was so serene inside the church as the sun streamed through the windows, and everyone was totally soaking up all the love.

We then adventured around Witless Bay for photos, never straying far from the water like the true Newfoundlanders we are… hanging out with the most hilarious bridal party EVER and making magic. As evening hit, we rolled into St. John’s to Quidi Vidi Brewery (thanks for having us!) for beer and a LOT of laughs!

Later that evening, Steph and Mark had a little moment to themselves among the dories on the dock as the sun set. They were at peace, totally themselves, and lost in each other for a while. Always the best little magical nugget of the wedding day. <3

To start the night of celebrations, we then arrived at one of my FAVOURITE venues- Glendenning! The room was softly lit in pinks and gold, making for a wonderful dinner before the dancing and TRUE craziness kicked off!

Thank you SO MUCH Stephanie & Mark for inviting me along to capture what was definitely one of the wildest, most hilarious and fun wedding days I’ve ever experienced! Congratulations again, all my love, and cheers to your first new year as a married couple!

XO- Maddie

Ally + Ray's Wedding in Harbour Breton // Newfoundland Wedding Photographer

Nestled among the green valleys of the south coast of Newfoundland is a beautiful hidden gem of a community where the people welcome you as their own and the ocean hugs you from all sides.

This is Harbour Breton, and I was lucky enough to travel there in August to document Allison and Ray's biggest adventure yet, all with their beautiful daughter by their side.

There were endless laughs, so much love, and a whole community coming together to support and celebrate this amazing couple in their hometown.

I have been lucky enough to get to know Allie and Ray through the years as I’ve photographed their maternity photos of their rainbow baby, their engagement session, and finally their wedding in August. I am so overjoyed with happiness for these guys and their families, and incredibly thankful for their friendship!!

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Power!!

So, you're struggling with your wedding timeline?
Welcome to the club.

If there's a one thing that I get asked by each and every couple, it's "HOW do I make a wedding timeline?" Even more than that, I get so many couples absolutely AGONIZING over whether or not to do a First Look for their wedding day, due to a number of factors and worries I'll address below.

Worry no more people, I'm here to help conquer these First Look and timeline blues with the next instalment in my FOR COUPLES Blog Series!

When trying to dream up your ideal wedding timeline, it may feel a little like you want to claw your eyes out, but this blog post will hopefully give you some insight into the direction you'll choose. :)

Being a photographer who loves untraditional, unique, adventurous weddings, first looks are close to my heart.

If you haven't heard of this or don't fully understand the details, it's pretty simple! :) Instead of seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony, you arrange to see each other before the vows and take a moment to yourselves before the whirlwind of the wedding day ahead.

First, we put one of you facing away from the other at a location of your choice.

sometimes it's as intimate as taking place in your own home-

other times it's with a sweeping landscape in the background!

After taking a pause to soak in the anticipation that's KILLING you, you finally get to face each other, see how amazing your Other Half looks, and embrace :)

There are a couple different ways you can incorporate a first look into your wedding day! Have a look at this comparison below to see two ways it can fit in while still having a timeline that suits your tastes.

TYPE 1 puts ALL your photos on the wedding day before the ceremony and reception, leaving absolutely no break in between.

TYPE 2 is my favourite because it's a great balance of a modern and traditional timeline. You still have some photos after the ceremony, but the break isn't as long.

Doing a first look is such an amazing chance to...

- help erase your pre-ceremony nerves

- have a moment alone together before being around a huge crowd the rest of the day

- explore a SUPER cool location for some photos that may be impractical to visit with a traditional wedding timeline

I know what's on your mind. Here are some reasons why you may be nervous about doing a first look (and why you can toss those worries aside)!!

- You may be worried about or already dealing with opinions regarding doing your wedding this way. You need to do you and that means the way your wedding day flows too. The people who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. :)

-You're worried that your better half won't have as good as a reaction as you walk down the aisle. can guarantee you their reaction to you will be one full of love! Even if they have already seen how incredible you look, nothing compares to the feeling they'll have when you walk towards them just seconds before your vows.

In the end, this special day is to celebrate the love you and your spouse share. Throw away your ideas of what "should be" and don't be afraid to make your dreams happen.  First looks aren't for everyone, but if it's something you've been considering I hope this blog post gave you some insight into the beautiful world of this unique and modern wedding tradition!

Until next time! xx Maddie

Emily & Aaron's Wedding at The Woodstock in St. John's // Newfoundland Wedding Photographers

It's always an honour to be part of the most special day in a couple's life, but when the bride is a dear friend, it almost defies description.

Emily is a wedding decorator with Live Wire Events, so it's not surprising that the big day was incredibly stylishly and decidedly untraditional for a fall wedding.

The love and connection between Aaron and Emily is so strong it was present in the air that day. The emotions flowed freely as everyone present were caught up in the beauty of the couple's wedding.

Every wedding is unique and beautiful, but every so often, one has the chance to witness something truly magical - a single moment of perfect beauty as two people begin a new life together.

I'm honoured to have been able to share that moment with Aaron and Emily!

The special day began at Emily's parents' house, where the gals got glammed up!

Then it was onto downstairs to visit the boys as they opened their groomsman gifts! Can't forget about the liquor samplers... And a Koolaid for the bride's little brother! ;)

They all looked dapper in their own style of suits, and complimented the ladies' mismatched bridesmaid dresses perfectly!

Their seriously emotional first look was next, and it had everyone bawling their eyes out! Me, behind the camera- and the wedding party, secretly watching from the back deck! ;)

Emily & Aaron had the cutest little ring bearers!!

The photos were taken at the bride's grandparent's house near the water. During the shoot, we found a small boat moored nearby - an homage to the couple's engagement shoot they had done aboard a sailboat!

In the late afternoon, it was time to make it official!! We all held it together for the ceremony... For the most part ;)

After the I Do's and before their party at The Woodstock Restaurant, E+A just HAD to catch some of that gorgeous sunset light! It was a time for some beautiful, quiet reflection for them before the reception!
