Kirby & Brad : ENGAGED // St. John's Wedding Photographer

0004KirbyBradEngagementBlog.jpg

Laughing is the best way to travel through life, and Kirby & Brad have that in abundance. These two are the sweetest souls everrrrrr (I use many letters to convey my excitement through the internet LOL) and we had a wicked time at their engagement session out in Pouch Cove!

Along with their pup Roscoe, we explored the cliffs above the roaring sea and belly laughed all the way to the bank.

Thanks for having me Kirby and Brad, SO pumped for your wedding next year!!

Sarah & Blair : ENGAGED // St. John's Wedding Photographer

0026SarahBlairBlog.jpg

Sarah and Blair are the perfect example that love and commitment have the power to overcome so much.

Blair is a veteran, and has been in recovery from a traumatic brain injury for some years time. Sarah has stood by his side through his healing and now that he is stronger, they are finally getting married this December!! They are the sweetest couple and kindest humans who aren't afraid to be silly, and have such a heart for adventure.

Sarah is an absolute angel and I’m totally obsessed with her. She’s also clumsy like me so we became fast friends, LOL.

For their engagement session, we spent an afternoon, simply, doing the things they love the most. Hanging out with their pup Hank (who, by the name, I assumed was a tank but you’ll see), skating at The Loop, and having lattés in a cozy coffee shop.

I had such a wonderful day laughing and celebrating love with Sarah & Blair and am SO excited for their wedding this December! Thank you for the happy vibes and puppy cuddles you guys!

Much love and light, XO - Maddie

Thank you Blair for your service and for being an honest voice online for traumatic brain injury recovery!

Gina + Steve's Sunset Session at Topsail Beach // Newfoundland Wedding Photographer

topsail-beach-sunset-session

One from Newfoundland, one from BC, met in the middle in Alberta and been there together ever since.

Gina and Steve came here for vacation this summer and wanted to celebrate their upcoming anniversary with a fun sunset couples session! We adventured around the shores at Topsail Beach and ended the night with a little walk to Topsail Bluff (more in the dark than we planned, because I have no sense of direction and it took me three tries to get on the right trail LOL).

They have so much joy and laughter to share, and we had an absolute blast at their shoot! It's SO great when I photograph couples and it's like we've been friends for years upon meeting for the first time. Thanks Gina and Steve for leaving a huge smile on my face and for being absolutely adorable!

PS- who thinks that Gina looks like Ariel with that red hair flaming in the sun!! My heart!

Sarah + Garrett's Brigus Engagement Session // St. John's Photographers

0012brigus-engagement-session-st-johns-photographers.jpg

When you come home for vacation from Yellowknife and it POURS RAIN SIDEWAYS on the day of your engagement shoot in Brigus, you try round 2 a few days later!

Had such a gorgeous afternoon adventure with Sara and Garrett in July! We hung out with their fur-baby (check out her neck tie, ahhh!), explored the rocky beach by the sea, and visited some adorably classic spots around Brigus.

Can't wait for their wedding in Springdale next year! Congratulations S+G!

JEN + CASEY : ENGAGED // St. John's Wedding Photographer

0044Jen_Casey_Engaged.jpg

I am more excited than Stanley from The Office on Pretzel Day!!!

Jen & Casey are getting married this Saturday so there's no better time to loo back on their engagement session from last fall (and not just because of their adorable kitty)!

These two found each other and just knew it was right. Congratulations J+C, I can't wait to celebrate with you this weekend! xo

Amanda & Darrell's Woodsy Engagement Session // St. John's Wedding Photographers

0018blog AD.jpg

When you find out that the girl you like is actually single, you hold her close and don't let go.

Amanda and Darrell got engaged over the holidays and their blended family will soon be official! Before the wedding planning begins however, they went on an adventure in the woods to the spot where their future home will be built. (How adorable is that by the way?!)

We trekked into the trees for a campfire (you know me- I wear hiking boots when I work so I'm always ready to go), staying cozy in a quilt Darrell's grandmother made and drinking hot chocolate. The kids soon joined us for a little skate, and I was definitely NOT jealous that a 7 year old is better on the ice than I am ;)

Congratulations on your engagement Amanda & Darrell! Thanks so much for having me! xo

Kayla & Byron's Engagement Session on George Street in St. John's // St. John's Engagement Photographer

0001blogkaylabyron.jpg

When you meet, and years later get engaged at O'Reilly's, you know you gotta go back for your engagement photos!

Kayla and Byron met one fateful night at the corner of the bar, underneath twinkling Christmas lights, and the rest is history. I was so glad to go back with them and witness where their love story began!

Can't wait for the wedding Kayla & Byron!! :)

Stephanie & Brent's Engagement Session in Downtown St. John's // St. John's Engagement Photographer

0027steph brent blog.jpg

When you come home to Newfoundland for the holidays, there's no better way to be greeted than with a snowstorm!

Stephanie and Brent totally rocked their engagement session in the snow, and had an absolute blast doing it- just the way it should be. Love couples who let their silly shine through (and not only because it makes me feel more comfortable being my dorky self)!

Enjoy their adventure below!

Thanks for having me Stephanie & Brent! Can't wait for the wedding this year! xo- Maddie

Caroline + Andrew's Boil-Up Engagement Session in Flatrock // St. John's Wedding Photographers

0003blog-caroline andrew.jpg

When you're having a Newfoundland inspired wedding next year, you need the engagement session to match.

Caroline and Andrew spend their mornings in the backwoods with their beagle Molly, so of course we had to venture out for a boil up and do just that.

Bet you've never seen an engagement ring in a Jam-Jam before ;)

Congratulations to Caroline and Andrew, can't wait for your wedding next year where I can do the Newfie Stomp all I want and not be judged. LOL.

Alicia + Ian's Fall Engagement Session in St. John's / Newfoundland Engagement Photographers

0001Blog Alicia Ian.jpg

As soon as we met, I knew Alicia and Ian were my kinda people, because they have  4 cats and have seen The Office *almost* as many times as me ;)

Last weekend for their engagement session, we arrived to MUN botanical gardens only to realize it was closed for the Thanksgiving weekend. Did we let that stop us? Heck no!

Alicia and Ian were totally down for a change of plans to adventure on forest trails, and it was the perfect backdrop for their beautiful relationship. The love and friendship these two share practically glows out of them like sunbeams.

Congratulations Alicia and Ian! Can't wait for the wedding!

Sarah and Chad's Engagement Session at Cape Spear in St. John's // Newfoundland Wedding Photographer

0006blog sarah chad.jpg

Another beautiful tale of what happens when Newfoundlanders make a new home together on the mainland, but can't resist the pull of the island tides for their special day.

Sarah and Chad came home to St. John's this summer and of course we had to take the opportunity to capture their engagement photos... so we knew there was no better place than Cape Spear.

With the wild wind and ocean below, Sarah and Chad bared their souls on these rocks and what we captured was the deep, beautiful connection they share.

Congratulations and all my love to Sarah and Chad! In less than a year you will be #BecomingTheBuddens and I can't wait to continue along on your journey!

Jess and Colin's Engagement Adventure on Bell Island // St. John's Engagement Photographers

Friends since the 7th grade who finally fell in love in university, leaving all their friends practically yelling "ABOUT TIME!" :)

Jessica and Colin are two incredible souls. las year, Colin tried to propose to his gal at their spot on Bell Island multiple times with no luck (rain, ferry broken down, etc)... So of course when they asked if I'd be down to journey the island with them for their engagement shoot, it was a resounding yes!!

They spent hours on a beautiful breezy day exploring the beaches and cliffs of Bell Island, ending the night off with a feed of fried chicken while waiting for the final ferry boat. What a day for these two lovebirds!! All my love J+C!

When we saw this puffin chair at the new Bell Island lookout, we knew we HAD to do some hilarious "grandparents on vacation" style shots!

Hanging out and admiring the crazy view wasn't a bad way to end off this adventure. :)

Can't wait for the wedding day! Maddie xx

Erin + Tim's Engagement Session at Mochanopoly in St. John's // Newfoundland Engagement Photographer

What do you get when two coffee, board game, and cat people meet and fall in love? This epic story below.

Erin & Tim's engagement session was super cute and unique- if it was any indicator of their wedding this fall I know we all have a lot to look forward to! Thanks for having me, E+T! Can't wait for September!

Special thanks to Mochanolopy Board Game Café on Water St. for letting us crash your place for some photos!

With love, Maddie

Krista + Geoff's ENGAGEMENT SHOOT at Bowring Park // St. John's Engagement Photographers

Krista messaged me way way back in August about shooting her winter engagement photos, and it's safe to say that I have been way too excited ever since!! Over the course of the winter, chatting with Krista and helping plan her shoot was such a joy, and we became fast friends!

St. John's received fluffy snow and perfect weather last weekend (mild AND no wind, a miracle!), so the time had come to finally meet this lady and her fiancé!

It was pure joy capturing their engagement photos! Their outfits were on point, but that didn't stop them from being incredibly sweet and down to earth. Near the end of the shoot, we were followed by a hissing swan, but it didn't get us down!

Krista & Geoff, creating your winter fairytale was wonderful, and I can't wait to shoot your wedding someday soon! xo :) Maddie

Lori & John's Downtown St. John's Couples Session // Newfoundland Engagement Photographers

BLOGLoriJohnDowntown-1.jpg

Being in love. It's when you smile so hard that your face hurts, when you dance even when EVERYONE is watching, and when your heart beats with warmth that radiates throughout your whole entire soul.

It was a beautiful evening in Downtown St. John's, and right around the corner from Lori and John's place a little Newfoundland fairytale came to life. First stop- Fred's Records, because where else??

Then, it was back up the road to their place, for some cozy times on their deck overlooking St. John's :) Note the Ariel and Captain America mugs. Score.

An evening walk a day keeps the doctor away!

You are the moonlight of my life every night
Giving all my love to you
My beating heart belongs to you
I walked for miles 'til I found you
I'm here to honor you
If I lose everything in the fire
I'm sending all my love to you

Some Green Day in honor of my girl Lori.

Keira & DJ's Engagement Session at Middle Cove Beach, St. John's // Newfoundland Engagement Photographers

After meeting Keira and DJ at The Ultimate Bridal Show last winter, I knew that we would get along great! Before they say their I Do's at the beautiful Lester's Farm Chalet next year, we had a little Topsail Beach adventure. :)

These two are madly in love and its clear when they so much as look at one another.

Until next time!

XO, -M

St. John's Engagement Photographers // Sheila and Cory Engaged

This engagement was 12 years in the making!

From their first jive at Sundance to their first hot chocolate at Tim Horton's, Sheila and Cory were nuts for one another. 12 years later and here they are!

It was a pleasure to shoot with you both and I wish you so much love in your marriage!

Tanya & Owen's Engagement Session in St. John's// Newfoundland Engagement Photographers

But I would walk five hundred miles
And I would walk five hundred more
Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles
To fall down at your door.

Tanya and Owen are perhaps the most stylish and classy pair I've ever had for an engagement shoot! Between their flair for fashion, their cheerfulness, and stunning bouquet from Polished Bouquet Design... WOW!

THE LOVE STORY

Tanya and Owen attended High School together in China over 10 years ago. In that time, Tanya came all the way here to Newfoundland, attending university. She also maintained a very LONG, long distance relationship with her guy... and finally, after 10 years, they are together for good. While an official wedding date is not in the books yet, they wanted some super stylish images to celebrate their engagement and commitment to each other!

Polished Bouquet Design created these gorgeous blooms!

With these puchy lace-up heels and a dress from ASOS, the bride to be knows a thing or two on how to work it ;)

The water here reminds me of the scenes in Mamma Mia... Elopement in Greece, anyone? ;)

Thank you, Tanya and Owen, for letting me into this special time in your life and allowing me to preserve your memories! :)

XO - Maddie
